The role
As an Advanced Nurse Practitioner with DrPA you will be the face of our patient's journey with Health
and Justice. Your days will be varied and will include working with the Healthcare team to provide high
quality and evidence-based nursing for patients. This will involve
- Ability to demonstrate adherence to evidence-based practice
- Experience of working autonomously in a healthcare role
- Knowledge of local and national healthcare agendas/strategy and policies and how they relate to
the specific service.
- Understand the legal, ethical, and professional responsibilities and accountability with regards to
advanced level, autonomous practice.
- Understand the impact of advanced practice roles on service delivery and their contribution to
the multi-professional team
- Excellent communication skills and an ability to engage with external partners

As the ideal candidate, you will have the following:
- Registered Nurse – Adult, Mental Health with current NMC registration or Registered Paramedic
with current HCPC registration
- Independent/supplementary prescriber qualification
- MSc in Advanced Practice
- Experience working autonomously as an advanced clinical practitioner following best practice
guidance and identifying risk to patients through sound use of clinical expertise
- Experience demonstrating high levels of clinical expertise in decision making and judgment,
enabling the development, monitoring and improvement of standard of care through
supervision, clinical practice, audit, research, education and professional leadership
- Knowledge of the statutory requirements for the safeguarding of adults and children
- Willing to be innovative and embrace learning through continued professional development and
the practical application of new skills in the workplace
- Excellent communication skills and ability to communicate openly, consistently and clearly
- A non-judgmental, patient centered and compassionate approach
- Good IT skills and IT literacy
- Proactive problem solving skills
- Flexible attitude to working arrangements
- Ability to work within a busy environment

HMP Highdown - Mondays - 1 session (Morning)

HMP Bronzefield - Monday/Thursday - 2 sessions (Full day)

Additional information
Disclosure and Barring Service- a Disclosure and Barring Service disclosure at the enhanced level is
required for this role. A risk assessment will be undertaken if necessary.
Prison Vetting- a HMPPS (Her Majesties Prison and Probation Service) clearance is required for this role
in accordance with Ministry of Justice, plus local prison vetting

About the Role:

We are looking for a dedicated Remote General Practitioner (GP) to support prison healthcare services by delivering high-quality medical assessments for individuals. As a New Reception GP, you will play a critical role in conducting initial health screenings and clinical triage remotely, ensuring that vulnerable individuals receive timely and appropriate care upon entry into the prison system.

This role is entirely remote but requires familiarity with the specific needs of prison populations and NHS pathways within the secure estate.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive remote health assessments for newly received prisoners.
  • Identify immediate clinical concerns (e.g., withdrawal risks, mental health needs, ongoing treatments).
  • Triage and prioritize follow-up care or urgent referrals to on-site clinicians or external services.
  • Work closely with on-site healthcare teams, prison staff, and specialist services.
  • Ensure accurate, secure documentation in line with NHS and HMPPS standards.
  • Provide clinical input into care planning for new arrivals, including safeguarding and continuity of care.
  • Support prison health staff with clinical advice and escalation where needed.

Requirements:

  • Fully qualified GP with GMC registration and license to practice in the UK.
  • Performers list registration
  • Drug and substance Misuse certification (Part 1 and Part 2)
  • Excellent clinical judgment and confident in remote risk assessment.
  • Strong understanding of NHS frameworks and prison healthcare structures (e.g., RECONNECT, Liaison & Diversion).
  • Familiarity with SystmOne is advantageous.

Job Summary
This is an exciting opportunity to join a developing new service aimed at improving the well-being and psychological functioning of young people at Oakhill STC. The service provides weekly individual and group therapy sessions to young people aged 12 to 18 years of age with an offending history. You will utilise a variety of psychological interventions for both the young person and family members including the SECURE STAIRS framework.

This is an opportunity to provide specialised Occupational Therapy (OT) interventions within the SECURE STAIRS framework - a joint partnership service between Health and the secure estate for the young people. SECURE STAIRS work within a psychological, trauma-informed framework to aid the transitioning of young people to prison/secure hospitals from community settings, with the MDT providing a holistic approach to recovery.

The role

The role involves managing a caseload of service users with complex needs, using evidence based/service user centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions.
As part of the role as a lead clinician, you will be responsible for assessment and completion of comprehensive formulation of risk and treatment needs. Within the service, you will work alongside the MDT in the development and delivery of multi-modal group and 1:1 therapeutic intervention as well as provide specialist assessments to those being transferred to the secure training facility as required. You will also provide support, supervision and leadership within the MDT. You will also hold a caseload of patients with varying difficulties including complete health and social care needs responding effectively to the changing needs of the patient caseload.

Qualifications

HCPC registered Occupational Therapist.

Sensory trained (e.g. Ayres Sensory Integration trained)

Experience in conducting diagnostic neurodevelopmental/ specialist developmental assessments with children and young people.

Experience working with children and young people with neurodevelopmental disorders or mental health difficulties in a clinical setting.

Knowledge of DSM-5 diagnostic criteria and appropriate assessment tools for autism and ADHD.

Knowledge of differential diagnosis.

Ideally ADOS-2/ ADI-R trained.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Experience in report writing and record keeping.

Additional qualifications in relevant areas of autism and/ or ADHD.

Clinical Supervision integral to the role.

Although not essential ideal applicants would have experience in a hospital, community or prison environment.

Job Summary
This is an exciting opportunity to join a developing new service aimed at improving the well-being and psychological functioning of young people at Oakhill STC. Overview

The post holder will be responsible for managing the mental health team on site, and deputising for the Head of Healthcare to oversee the wider Healthcare team during absence.

The post holder will be expected to provide effective leadership for a multi-disciplinary clinical team, providing a high-quality service within the resources available.

The post holder will be expected to ensure the development of services that are comprehensive, flexible and promote a culture of young people’s involvement at every stage of the care pathway.

 

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

The post holder will be expected to coordinate and lead team functioning with particular focus on:

  • To be responsible for the planning, delivery and evaluation of quality mental health care for patients.
  • To support the delivery of SECURE STAIRS with the Operator
  • Performance monitoring and management including engaging with commissioners and service evaluators as required
  • Line management and supervision of staff, including ensuring staff are supported to achieve a high standard of practice via regular supervision, support meetings and personal development
  • To ensure appropriate professional supervision arrangement are in place
  • To actively manage a small caseload of complex patients
  • To ensure that the team provides effective and evidence-based interventions which are guided by national, local and professional standards.
  • Ensure that the team functions in line with the agreed operational policy
  • Co-ordinate recruitment and selection of staff within the team, leading on decisions
  • Respond to serious untoward incidents as appropriate and support any subsequent investigation
  • Ensure complaints are investigated fully, within the time limits ensuring a proactive approach is standard and in accordance with policies
  • To ensure staff are supported to achieve a high standard of practice via regular supervision, support meetings and personal development and have access to the necessary professional training
  • To ensure robust service to careers, including assessment and support
  • Ensure that job plans are developed, are reflective of service needs and are regularly reviewed and adjusted to meet the demands of the service
  • Deputise for the Head of Healthcare during their absence

 

Performance Management:

To provide effective leadership and management to the team that promotes high performance standards and enhances the achievement of our objectives and priorities.

  • Assume overall management accountability for the team
  • Assume responsibility for the day-to-day operational management of the team ensuring the service is delivered within the agreed structures outlined in the operational policy
  • Provide clear and consistent leadership to the workforce of the team and offer professional advice when required
  • To engage staff in the delivery of all performance targets for and on behalf of the organisation, to assist the team in improving the quality of the service
  • Establish, develop and contribute to service developments within the directorate
  • To develop, implement and maintain systems, processes and practice in risk management, including the management of Health and Safety.
  • Ensure all aspects of Safeguarding are adhered to and that policies and procedures are followed at all times.
  • Effective management of risk of infection ensuring related polices fully complied with and communicated in the team

Management Responsibilities

  • Conduct and contribute to the PDR process for all staff within the team which reflect the Organisation’s local priorities and ensure staff has access to appropriate training and development
  • Co-ordinate and develop the practice and culture of the MDT team through close liaising with clinical leads around recruitment and service delivery
  • Ensure appropriate supervision takes place in line with policy
  • Communicate regularly through team meetings, team briefings, clinical forums and individually with team members providing an opportunity for two-way feedback
  • Ensure that young people and carers opinions and experiences are being responded to at a team level
  • Ensure through effective leadership and management, continuous service development, improvement and high-quality service delivery
  • Clinical record keeping is of a consistent high standard and meets trust policy and practice guidance
  • Ability to communicate effectively at management level and to a wide range of target audiences
  • Resolve complex clinical matters between staff and clients where persuasion, motivation and reassurance maybe required

 

Clinical

  • Ensure effective communication systems and structures are in place to facilitate the dissemination of information relating to the young person’s risk profiles
  • To be professionally accountable for the planning and delivery of care leading on the prioritising of clinical needs and risk to provide an effective, safe and efficient service
  • To ensure partnership working with young people and their families where appropriate, to meet a range of complex situations that arise from offending behaviour and mental health needs.
  • To ensure all policies are understood including Mental Health Act, Children’s Act and Safeguarding Adults.

 

Essential

  • Relevant professional qualification (RMN, Social Worker), educated to degree, masters level or have other relevant experience)
  • Either community mental health experience or offender healthcare experience is essential.
  • Significant experience of and demonstrable achievement in clinical practice in variable settings
  • Experience of providing professional support/supervision and motivation of staff
  • Understanding of Health and Social Care Governance Experience of managing staff and liaising with other agencies
  • Proven commitments to service user involvement and carer involvement.
  • Resilient and self-motivated with drive and vision that is able to work on own initiative and manage a range of priorities across competing agendas.
  • Knowledge of the key drivers behind community mental health care
  • Ability to provide and receive complex and emotive information with staff, service users, carers and other stakeholders
  • Ability to present service information and service development clearly
  • An open and facilitative style of leadership which can be adapted when necessary to ensure delivery of objectives

 

Desirable
