  Overview Oakhill Secure Training Centre is a custodial environment for children both females and males between the ages of 12 years old and 18 years old. Children may present with complex wellbeing and mental health needs, undiagnosed neurodivergent needs and complex trauma. This role sits within the healthcare team, consisting of Assistant & Trainee Psychologists, Qualified Psychologists, Speech and Language Therapist, Occupational Therapist, Psychiatrist, Registered Mental Health Nurses and Registered General Nurses.   Job Summary This is an exciting opportunity to join a developing new service aimed at improving the well-being and psychological functioning of children at Oakhill STC. The service provides weekly individual and group therapy sessions to children aged 12 to 18 years of age with an offending history. As part of the SECURE STAIRS model as an Assistant psychologist you would be able to work with children with low level mental health needs, complex trauma, and neurodivergence. You will be involved in supporting psychological assessment, formulations, and interventions under the regular clinical supervision of a qualified psychologist. You will also work closely with the wider healthcare team and operational colleagues in delivering trauma informed services. Key Tasks and Responsibilities: ? To complete wellbeing checks on all children across the centre and promote a psychologically safe environment by modelling trauma?informed approaches in all interactions with children and staff. ? To embed the Assistant Psychologist role within the house units, engaging daily with children in activities and their regime. ? To complete My Story formulations including updating them regularly, reviewing and collating sensitive information to inform My Stories, and engaging children to complete the My story collaboratively. ? To attend weekly meetings with professionals from the wider service to ensure consistent and appropriate support is provided for all children. ? To support the delivery of training to officers to support their understanding of mental health diagnosis, complex presentation, and neurodivergence, as well as how to support children’s wellbeing. ? To maintain accurate and up to date records for children, and recognise and report concerns in line with local and national safeguarding procedures. ? To attend weekly clinical MDT meetings with professionals from across the healthcare team and contribute to discussions. ? To undertake psychological assessments of children applying psychological theory, including observation, self-report measures and semi-structured interviews. ? To assist in the formulation and delivery of care plans involving the psychological treatment and/or management of a problem, under the supervision of a qualified psychologist. ? Manage a caseload of children and deliver trauma?informed, child?centred wellbeing sessions in line with assessed needs. ? To assist in the coordination and running of therapeutic groups or clinical projects. ? To work with other staff to assess or support children within the secure training centre and contribute to multidisciplinary discussions or care guidelines as agreed with the psychologist/psychological therapist providing supervision. ? To assist in the development of a psychological based framework of understanding and care to the benefit of all children of the service, across all settings where care takes place. ? Assist in gathering information relevant to risk assessments, including self?harm, violence, vulnerability, and exploitation.   Additional Opportunities: ? Experience of working within a mental health or secure setting with vulnerable or at risks groups (paid or voluntary considered) ? Trained or experience of delivering at least one model of therapy (for example, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, Compassion Focussed Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) ? A demonstrable passion for working with children ? Prior experience of Assistant Psychologist position (including voluntary position)   Ideal requirements: ? Campsfield House: Immigration Removal Centre (IRC) is a new service and will provide complete healthcare services which has been commissioned by NHS England. Is a secure facility designed to accommodate up to 160 male residents in both single and dual occupancy rooms. The centre houses a combination of time-served foreign national offenders (FNO) and immigration offenders until the Home Office arranges their removal from the UK Residents are not permitted to leave the centre or access the local area. Consequently, recreational, educational, healthcare, and faith-related facilities are provided entirely onsite. Healthcare provides a range of services including primary care, mental health, substance misuse, pharmacy, dental, optometry, physiotherapy, podiatry, and audiology services delivered either by us or our specialist partners. Job Summary: As the psychiatrist for Campsfield IRC you will provide excellent clinical care, assessment and treatment for patients on the case load. You will actively participate in the strategic direction of the mental health service, advising on service development and provide clinical supervision. You will work within the multi-disciplinary team to review referrals, determine appropriate treatment plans, conduct risk assessments, and engage in multi professional complex case reviews. You will also; Provide expert clinical advice and outstanding evidence-based care, listening and acting on patient feedback so that care is personalised and informed by what matters to them. You will be working as part of a multidisciplinary team to deliver trauma-informed, culturally aware, person-centred mental health services. You will also provide oversight of and lead on development of clinical practice and the implementation of the mental health pathway. We would like this s role to commence before the centre opens. During this period, you will be undertaking centre induction, supporting the setup of the department, reviewing policies and procedures, developing and strengthening community healthcare links for residents with more complex presentations, and generally supporting the service to go live. Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct psychiatric evaluations of the Residents including urgent assessments, risk assessments (self-harm, suicide risk) and evaluations under relevant legal frameworks.
  • Diagnose and manage psychiatric disorders.
  • Prescribe, monitor, and review psychiatric medication.
  • Provide both short-term and longer-term follow-up care; ensuring continuity of care for those being transferred or removed.
  • Work collaboratively as part of the MDT
  • Provide patient-centred therapeutic interventions
  • Be aware of and apply the IRC legal frameworks applicable to mental health, for example: Rule 35, 40, IS91, ACDT, etc and other safeguarding processes
  • Participate in MDT case conferences, with interpreters, and other relevant staff.
  • Contribute to the design and implementation of mental health pathways, service development, protocols, audit and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential clinical records in line with NHS, legal, and detention facility governance requirements.
  • Support training and supervision for junior healthcare staff in recognising and managing mental health conditions.
  • Be available for crisis interventions / emergency psychiatric input within the centre.
Working Environment & Conditions

  Essential Qualifications:
  • Registered professional with current registration (GMC) and license to practice in the UK
  • Specialist Registration in either General Adult or Forensic Psychiatry
  • Approved under section 12 (2) of the MHS 1983
  • Evidence of Continued Professional Development
  • Understanding of the complexities of MDT and multi-agency working
  • Up to date knowledge in adult psychiatry, PD, addiction and neurodiversity
  • Excellent communication skills with patients to understand their needs
  • Strong knowledge of UK mental health legislation, safeguarding, and the special legal issues facing immigration detention.
  • Experience prescribing psychiatric medication safely and monitoring outcomes.

Job Summary The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) plays a vital frontline role in delivering safe, effective, and compassionate pre-hospital care within secure and emergency environments. The post holder will work as part of a double-crewed ambulance, responding to emergency and non-emergency incidents, assessing and managing patients within their scope of practice, and supporting multidisciplinary clinical teams. This role requires a high level of professionalism, adaptability, and clinical competence to ensure patient safety, operational readiness, and compliance with regulatory and organisational standards.   • Work as part of a double-crewed emergency ambulance with senior clinicians and/or act as clinical lead when appropriate

  • Conduct dynamic risk assessments at incident scenes, identifying safety concerns and resource requirements
  • Physically manoeuvre and lift patients using approved manual handling techniques and equipment

  Job Summary The General Practitioner specialising in Substance Misuse provides clinical assessment, and treatment for individuals experiencing drug dependency. The GP will support newly referred patients through harm reduction, detoxification, stabilisation, and recovery programmes, ensuring evidence-based medical treatment The role involves working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams including nurses, recovery workers, and pharmacists to improve health outcomes for vulnerable populations.   Key Responsibilities Clinical Duties

  Oakhill Secure Training Centre Oakhill Secure Training Centre is operated by G4S Care and Justice Services. The centre provides accommodation across three blocks for up to 80 children (male and female) aged 12 to 17 years who are serving a custodial sentence or who are remanded to custody by the courts. Children are not permitted to leave the centre and they have all their healthcare; educational and religious needs met within the centre. Summary and Description The Speech and Language Therapist will provide specialist assessment, therapy and communication support to young people in custody.   Job Summary The post-holder is responsible for working as part of a team responsible for the assessment, care, treatment of vulnerable population. This will also include providing advanced clinical interventions, including drug therapies at scene and may administer medication within PGD guidelines.   • Ability to organise and manage the scene of a complex incident during initial stages until a Manager/Commander arrives. This could involve organising or managing patients or other responding services.
  • Modify and adapt working practices to meet the clinical needs of the patient in an emergency and urgent care setting.
  • Utilise appropriate and relevant information to assist patients to make informed health choices in line with national guidance and the health promotion and prevention agenda.

Job Summary The Nurse Coordinator is responsible for the day-to-day coordination of nursing activity, ensuring that clinical operations run smoothly across the service. This role combines clinical leadership, operational management, and direct patient care. The post-holder oversees staff deployment, clinical standards, patient flow, documentation quality, and governance compliance. They ensure that vulnerable individuals receive safe and effective care and that the nursing team operates in line with best practice, legal frameworks, and organisational policies. They act as a key point of contact for colleagues, management, and multidisciplinary partners, supporting clinical escalation, safeguarding pathways, and effective communication across the service.   Key Responsibilities Clinical Care & Assessment
  • Provide comprehensive nursing assessments, including physical, mental, and social health evaluations.
  • Support triage processes, prioritising clinical need and ensuring safe allocation of staff to high-risk cases.
  • Deliver direct clinical care such as wound care, medication administration, emergency response, and long-term condition management.
  • Apply trauma-informed care approaches, ensuring interactions are compassionate, supportive, and centred on patient dignity.
  • Manage complex patients presenting with multiple comorbidities, mental health issues, or safeguarding concerns.
  • Identify clinical deterioration promptly and initiate escalation to the appropriate medical or emergency services.
  • Ensure patients receive timely access to GP, mental health, paramedic, or external services where needed.
Clinical Coordination & Operational Oversight
  • Coordinate and deploy nursing staff across shifts to ensure safe staffing levels and skills mix.
  • Monitor patient flow through assessment, treatment, and follow-up pathways to reduce delays and unmet needs.
  • Manage the distribution of workload among nurses and healthcare support staff, ensuring fairness and prioritisation.
  • Oversee shift handovers, ensuring accurate communication of clinical priorities and risk concerns.
  • Support rota management, short notice staffing issues, and coordination of bank/agency staff where needed.
  • Ensure emergency response equipment, medications, and clinical supplies are maintained, stocked, and compliant with safety standards.
  • Assist with planning for high-demand periods, unexpected surges, or major incident responses.
Leadership, Supervision & Staff Support
  • Provide day-to-day leadership for the nursing team, acting as a clinical role model.
  • Offer supervision, mentorship, and guidance to junior nurses, HCAs, and new staff.
  • Conduct competency assessments, training updates, and oversight of clinical skill development.
  • Lead by example in promoting professionalism, integrity, and safe clinical practice.
  • Support staff wellbeing, recognising signs of burnout or stress and escalating appropriately.
  • Address performance issues sensitively but effectively, supporting improvement plans where required.
  • Facilitate debriefs after difficult cases, clinical incidents, or operational challenges.
Governance, Compliance & Quality Assurance
  • Ensure nursing documentation is accurate, legally compliant, and completed within required timeframes.
  • Oversee the quality of patient records, risk assessments, and care plans, ensuring consistency and clarity.
  • Audit compliance with medication management, infection control, clinical guidelines, and safeguarding standards.
  • Participate in governance meetings, preparing reports or feedback related to nursing performance or incidents.
  • Support the implementation of new policies, clinical pathways, and service improvement initiatives.
  • Monitor clinical outcomes and contribute to continuous improvement of care quality.
  • Ensure that information sharing complies with Caldicott principles and data protection legislation.
Communication & MDT Collaboration
  • Serve as a central communication point between nursing teams, operational leads, GPs, paramedics, mental health professionals, and external agencies.
  • Provide clear clinical handovers using recognised frameworks (e.g., SBAR).
  • Ensure essential information is passed to decision-makers promptly, particularly around safeguarding risks, complex cases, or operational concerns.
  • Support patients with communication barriers including language needs, learning disabilities, trauma, cultural sensitivities, or emotional distress.
  • Maintain effective liaison with external partners such as hospitals, safeguarding teams, social care, or specialist services.
  • Facilitate multidisciplinary meetings, team briefings, and contributions to case reviews.
Safeguarding & Risk Management
  • Identify safeguarding concerns related to children, adults at risk, trafficking, exploitation, or self-harm.
  • Ensure timely referrals, documentation, and escalation in line with safeguarding legislation and local pathways.
  • Support staff in recognising, reporting, and managing risk appropriately.
  • Lead on immediate risk management actions such as placing individuals under enhanced observation where clinically indicated.
  • Review incidents, near-misses, or complaints, supporting root cause analysis and learning dissemination.
Essential Criteria
  • Registered Nurse (RGN or RMN) with valid NMC pin OR HCPC registered Paramedic
  • Experience delivering nursing care in primary care, emergency, community, or secure settings.
  • Strong assessment and decision-making abilities.
  • Experience leading teams or coordinating clinical activity.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain calm and professional behaviour in challenging situations.
  • Understanding of safeguarding responsibilities and risk management.
  • Experience working within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Proven ability to prioritise workload in fast-paced or high-pressure environments.
  • Commitment to equality, diversity, and trauma-informed practice.
  • Ability to work day, night, weekend, and bank holiday shifts.
Desirable Criteria
  • Experience working in a secure environment (e.g., detention, custody, prison, immigration services).
  • Experience supporting patients with mental health, substance misuse, or complex trauma.
  • Experience with clinical governance, audits, policy development, or service improvement.
  • Previous involvement in rota coordination or operational planning.
  • Teaching, mentorship, or supervision qualifications.
  • Experience managing clinical incidents or leading team debriefs.
